Question
In English, if you want something to happen you say "Fingers crossed" or "I'll keep my fingers crossed" or even "I'll keep everything crossed" - do Russians have an equivalent and do they make the same gesture of crossing fingers? Similarly what about "touching wood" or "tempting fate"?
Many thanks.
Answer
Hi John,
We say тьфу-тьфу-тьфу or постучи по дереву when something positive happened and we don't want that it ends.
