How to express unreliable comparison in Russian

Did you know that there are different ways to express unreliable comparison in Russian? If you want to express contrast of real – irreal in the same sentence, you can use these words: словно, (как) будто, точно (as if).

For example:

Он пошёл уверенным шагом, как будто знал, куда идёт. He walked with a confident step, as if he knew where he was going.

Женщины в форме начали смеяться, словно дети. The uniformed women began to laugh like children.

Она пыталась об этом не думать, точно эта мысль была опасна. She tried not to think about it, as if the thought was dangerous.
