Russian verbs of cold weather

Did you know that in Russian there are many different verbs related to weather? When we talk about cold, we normally use холодать, похолодать, подморозить, подмерзать.

For example:

Ох, как похолодало! Oh, it has gotten so cold!

Кажется, холодает, я начинаю замерзать. It seems to be getting colder, I’m starting to freeze.

Ночью так подморозило, что лужи покрылись льдом! At night it froze so much that the puddles are covered with ice!

Земля подмёрзла, уже ничего не посадишь в огороде! The ground got frozen, you can’t plant anything in the garden anymore!
