Russian Verbs Used with the Genitive Case

Did you know that the Genitive case is used with the Russian verbs просить, хотеть, требовать, искать, ждать, ожидать, достигать, желать, бояться with nouns designating abstract and indefinite objects? When the nouns are concrete and definite, the Accusative case is used with the verbs просить, хотеть, требовать, искать, ждать, ожидать and желать.

For example,

Я прошу внимания! I am calling for attention.

Мы боимся холода. We are afraid of cold.

Мы ждём новостей. We are waiting for the news.
