Did you know that the Russian prefix без (бес) is used with the consonant з before vowels and voiced consonants (б, в, г, д, ж, з, л, м, н, р), and with the consonant c before voiceless consonants (п, ф, к, т, ш, с, ч, щ, ц, х)? The same happens to all the prefixes that end in з or с, раз (рас)-, из- (ис-), воз- (вос-), вз- (вс-), низ- (нис-), чрез- (чрес-).
