The Combination of Russian Numerals, Adjectives and Nouns

Did you know that different cases of adjectives and nouns can be used in combination with Russian cardinal numerals?

For example,

1. Nominative case

Masculine: Один маленький ребёнок. One little child,
Feminine: Одна маленькая девочка. One little girl.
Neuter; Одно маленькое окно. One little window.

2. Genitive case and Nominative case, singural and plural (depending on the gender of the noun), works for the numerals “2,3,4” and all the numerals that end in these numbers.

Masculine: Два, три, четыре маленьких ребёнка. Two, three, four little children, the adjective is used in the Genitive plural and the noun, in the Genitive singular.

Feminine: Две, три, четыре маленькие девочки. Two, three, four little girls, the adjective is used in the Nominative plural and the noun, in the Genitive singular.

Neuter: Два маленьких окна. Two, three, four little windows,  the adjective is used in the Genitive plural and the noun, in the Genitive singular.

3. Genitive case, plural, works for the numerals “5-20” and all the numerals that end in “5-9”.

Masculine: Пять, шесть, семь маленьких детей. Five, six, seven little children.
Feminine: Пять, шесть, семь маленьких девочек. Five, six, seven little girls.
Neuter: Пять, шесть, семь маленьких окон. Five, six, seven little windows.
