Course introduction

This course is aimed at Russian language students at the B2-C1 level who are interested in Russian literature and the history of Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as in contemporary Russian literature. If adapted texts are used, however, then a teacher could work with a student at the B1 level as well.

In the lessons students are introduced to the most significant works of Russian writers, both poetry and prose, in chronological order.

The average course comprises 30 hours, however it may be extended according to a student’s wishes.

The teacher will acquaint students with the biographies of authors as well as the historical contexts surrounding the creation of each work. During the lessons the teacher helps students analyse each work while drawing students’ attention to the lexical and grammatical particularities of the text. The course is accompanied by videos connected to the topic of the lessons.

I met Alexandra three years ago. At that time I was a post-graduate student at the Catholic University of Milan and I was conducting research for my doctoral dissertation in Moscow. I approached a Russian language school because I wanted to improve my spoken Russian, and I registered for individual classes with Alexandra. She is an extremely competent teacher – friendly, with an excellent command of her subject. Perhaps most of all I appreciated the fact that she was interested in linguistics, and we could discuss some of the topics that I was examining as part of my research. I still have the book by M. Kronhouse that she gave me!

I was struggling to learn Russian on my own when I discovered Yulia's Russian lessons on Skype. As a Russian beginner I highly recommend her lessons. She keeps a good balance between theory and practice, she uses several different materials yet she keeps the teaching focused to your personal progress. She can adapt the lessons to your particular level and needs. She not only is a very qualified and experienced teacher, she has a talent for it!

I had classes of Russian language with Yulia Amlinskaya last year. During that period Yulia has devoted the time to detect the weak points, to help me work on them and thus, to improve my Russian. She is a very patient teacher and organizes each class so the students can get the most out of it. She is also a great person, kind and amusing, which is very important for me since it makes relaxing but productive atmosphere during the classes. Therefore I highly recommend Yulia to anyone who wishes to perfect Russian.
