Here is a list of the most common commands in both English and Russian:
- Copy = Копировать
- Cut = Вырезать
- Paste = Вставить
- Save = Сохранить
- Undo = Отменить
- Redo = Повторить
If you type on a computer keyboard, it’s likely that you use different key combinations. The names of most keys in Russian are the same as in English, but there are exceptions; we have listed them below.
- Space bar = Пробел
- Enter key = Ввод
- Arrow keys = Стрелки (вправо/влево/вниз/вверх)
These commands and keyboard buttons are essential tools for navigating and interacting with computers in both languages. Happy typing!
Fun and useless fact:
You may hear that Russians (especially middle-aged individuals) read the commands Ctrl+C as [контрл цэ] and Ctrl+P as [контрл пэ]. This has been the case since the early days of the computer era when not everyone spoke English. Today, you are more likely to hear the Russian phrase ‘копировать-вставить’ or the Anglicism ‘копипаст’.
