Difference between такой же and одинаковый

Do you know what is the difference between такой же and одинаковый? There are synonyms and both mean “the same”, but require different structures: одинаковый is mostly used with plural nouns, while такой же (, как и) describes a comparison.

For example,

У него такой же свитер, как и у тебя!  He has the same sweater as you!

У нас одинаковые свитеры! Our sweaters are the same!
