Sentences with не успел… как

Do you know that to describe a very short time interval in Russian we use the phrase не успел… как (‘as soon as’)?

For example,

Не успела я выйти на улицу, начался дождь. As soon as I got outside, it started to rain.

Sometimes, it may mean that the action was not yet finished when another activity started:

Не успел я доесть завтрак, как зазвонил телефон. I hadn’t finished eating breakfast when the phone rang.
