It is not that easy to decline a Russian word “Лёд” (=ice) as it may seem. Notice that in every case but Nominative and Accusative the word gets a soft sign (‘ь’) instead of letter ‘ё’.
- Nom.: лёд
Лёд — это вода в твёрдом агрегатном состоянии. = Ice is water in a solid state.
- Gen.: льда
В этом году на улицах очень много льда. = This year, there is a lot of ice on the streets.
- Dat.: льду
Весной опасно ходить по льду. = In spring, it is dangerous to walk on the ice.
- Acc.: лёд
Туристы фотографируют лёд на Байкале. = Tourists are photographing the ice on Lake Baikal.
- Instr.: льдом
Мария заказала кока-колу со льдом. = Maria ordered a cola with ice.
- Prep.: (о чём?) о льде
Мы узнали интересные факты о льде. = We learned interesting facts about ice.
(где?) в /на льду
Я не смотрю хоккей на траве, только хоккей на льду! = I don’t watch hockey on grass, only hockey on ice!
