Question
I note that there is no future passive participle in Russian (At least not in my Grammar book) which would would correspond to the English construction “This is a book that will be read by many people”.
The book says that 2 principal ways to create the passive sense in Russian is to use the third person plural or use a reflexive ending.
I would be curious – how would you translate into Russian the above sentence in quotes?
Thank you.
Answer
Hi George,
I would translate it as Эта книга будет прочитана многими людьми or Эта книга будет читаться многими людьми. In the first case, the result is important, in the second, the process.
