In this sentence (read in my course book) "Чтобы этот центр заинтересовал детей, и больших и маленьких, а также взрослых людей, ...." which case follows the verb? I cannot work out the grammar.

Hello! The case that follows the verb in the Accusative animate plural which coincides with the Genetive plural. The verb "интересовать-заинтересовать" is used with the Accusative case:
- Эта книга заинтересовала меня.
- Эта передача интересует Сергея.
